Pink and Greens

You may have heard of Tong Shui Cafe as it has been featured in various mags and papers for its new take on the humble Hong Kong cafe or "ca can tang". With 3 branches (Zion Road, West Coast Road and Liang Seah St near Bugis) and more to come, it appears that its fusion concept has gone down well with the local (and somewhat jaded palate) ;P Decked in pinks, greens and ebony with huge chinese lanterns hanging outside the cafe, it certainly gave off a little of that "old world" feeling...

One can feel a little lost when perusing the menu (was it a 100 over items?!) but a "Favourites" page and accompanying pictures help greatly. Besides the usual favourites like noodles, baked dishes, drinks and desserts, the cafe boasts more western offerings eg. pork chops, ribs as well as a section featuring 12 types of toasts!! Pure carb addiction.

We ordered the luncheon meat/egg Nissin noodle combination, chee chong fun, prawn & mango fried roll (not shown) and the vitamin packed mango/kiwi/banana smoothie :D

And now for the piece de resistance - two layers of unbelievably yummy toast (crispy on the outside and soft on the inside) slathered with D24 durian puree...

Chinese Halal

Been eating out for dinner almost everyday this week and I even ate at two halal food courts! "Halal" can be defined as the preparation of food according to Islamic laws. Craving for halal xiao long bao, ban mian, char kway teow or Japanese cuisine? Check out your nearest halal food court ;)

My colleagues and I had dinner at Far East Plaza (Level 5) which is packed with various chinese halal cafes. Guess what we found at one popular cafe called "Cahaya"? Old school prawn fritters and a noodle dish (probably inspired by the sweet and sour chilli crab sauce) called "Jimba Mee" ;D
